union jacques - dub pets - upitup records
Union Jacques - Dub Pets ..... we felt this 12" from local label Upitup Records deserved a little spotlight attention this week. Currently exclusive to us in the UK Dub Pets is Upitup Record's first 12" vinyl record. A long time in the making, this record truly marks a great landmark in the label's history, as it is the first physical release after 9 years of quality free mp3 releases showcasing all forms of electronic music from across the globe. Crafted by co-founder and life member Jacques MalChance under artist name "Union Jacques", it's an electro/techno dub inspired 3 track 45rpm record. Each track has a unique style, vibe and stands in its own right yet they all share the same recurring sounds and themes, especially very dominant is the use of hardware such as TR-707 and TR-606. The music is UK inspired (jacques has been in living in Liverpool since 2005) and in a way it is Jacques' take on Dub Step, although it doesn't have much of the step, but more of the dub.
Short description of tracks:
A1 - "Forest Dub" is a 7minute epic piece of music, a fairly slow electro track combining digidub and dubstep elements with beautiful melodies and very deep bass that builds up to a tr-606 based jungle section and a very memorable melodic ending.
B1 - "Bad Debts" is the most heavy and dance friendly track, characterised by a fluctuating bpm intro that drops first into a dubstep inspired short section and then into a fast 4/4 techno dub section.
B2 - "Dark side of the Dub" has a very long drum-less intro, very mellow and beautifully arranged that culminates into a detroitesque bass heavy futuristic house/garage track.
